Venezuela's Cashea raises $100 million from global investors
Cashea, a Venezuelan company offering interest-free installments for everyday purchases, raised $100 million from global investors, according to its press release. It has more than 10 million accounts and 40,000 partner stores. Where credit is scarce, whoever builds the retail network first defines the category.
Cashea, a Venezuelan company that lets people pay for everyday purchases in interest-free installments, just raised 100 million dollars from global investors. In a country where consumer credit collapsed from 15 billion dollars to 1.7 billion between 2013 and 2020, that is a bold bet.
Cashea already has more than 10 million accounts and 40,000 partner stores, and it has processed over 100 million transactions. Global money is starting to look at markets almost everyone else wrote off.
Where credit is scarce, whoever builds the retail network first gets to define the category. Cashea did the slow work of signing up stores one by one, and now the capital is following.
For anyone selling in Latin America, the takeaway is that the hardest markets are often the ones with the least competition and the most room to build.
